NYC Boss Up holds two pitch competitions per year.

One for entrepreneurs living in NYCHA or Section 8 public housing and one for Veterans, including Gold Star Families and military spouses. 

Application Process

Step 1: Entrepreneurs complete an online application.

Step 2: A selected group of applicants advance to “Pitch Day” where they present their business to a panel of judges from the corporate, government, and philanthropic sectors. 

Step 3: Winners receive a grant and join a year-long program to advance their business.

Boss Up Program

Winners receive and participate in the following program components: 

  • Receive a $20,000 grant ($5,000 upon winning and $15,000 after goal setting and initial training)

  • Access to training programs through NYC Department of Small Business Services

  • Opportunity to be paired with a mentor or coach

  • Regular networking opportunities with other Boss Up winners

  • Connections to legal, financial, and industry-specific supports, as needed
